The first page of Labyrinth Magazine, written by Christian Booker, tells the story of a young Black girl whose youth was stripped from her.

“When I was young, I envisioned what my perfect life would be like. I’d go to college, have my own career, get married and have kids. It was mundane, but it was something I yearned for. It was a life, nonetheless. Of course, this was before my mind could fully articulate a world tainted by racial injustice.

I was a little girl who dreamt and was right for doing so. The vision of a life I coveted would soon be obliterated and turned to ash. I couldn’t attain mundaneness — not even if I tried. My life would not fall in rhythm to a linear path permissible by society. If anything, society laughed in my face at the promise of my ache.

This revelation didn’t surprise me. Like many other Black women, the life I envisioned for myself would be obstructed by the vices of racial, social and gender inequality — I was defenseless.”

Lina Daniels is unapologetically bold. Her personal style is an eclectic blend of fearlessness and originality. She’s daring, ambitious and breaking barriers as a queer, Indigenous woman in the modeling industry.

Daniels was signed to her first modeling agency, Q6 Models, on her birthday in 2019. Since then, she’s been signed to Others Peoples Children in Los Angeles and Anti Agency in London.

“The pandemic started shortly after I got signed and I was barely getting any jobs, if any, which was pretty discouraging,” she recalled. “I thought that was just going to be how it was for the rest of my career.”

“Queer love is tender. We wanted to create something that felt gentle, yet profound, like their love for each other.

The blood acts as an emblem of the suffering endured by the queer community. Specifically, those who came before and forged a path where we can love freely. Despite pain, tragedy and adversity, love always prevails.”
